A Note From Our founder

I started in beauty with an 11-year career as a columnist for The New York Times Style Section and fell in love with fragrances. Fragrances are a powerful, invisible language that can tell a story or conjure a keen memory in one concise sniff. Especially in our world of non-stop, intense visual imagery, fragrance reconnects us to our sense of smell but also to a present state of mind. Close your eyes, take a whiff and be in the moment. When I became pregnant with my daughter Ellis and was living in Brooklyn (hence Ellis Brooklyn!), and when I started cleaning up my beauty routine, that I found there were no sophisticated clean options for fragrance. This was 2013 and the beginnings of clean beauty as we know it today, but I also thought a lot of gorgeous possibilities in the conscious beauty/sustainability realm of fragrance
that hadn't yet been discovered. 

Ellis Brooklyn officially debuted in June 2015, and it was born of joy, curiosity and creativity. I love the art, craftsmanship and storytelling that you can do through perfume. Our ethos is about telling our modern American experience through fragrance while also maintaining rigorous, clean beauty standards and sourcing sustainably at the same time. I hope you love our fragrances as much as l've loved creating them.
